Blair Atholl Distillery

Blair Athol Distillery is a Highland distillery located in the town of Pitlochry, Perthshire, at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands, in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains. Its location makes it one of the more accessible Highland distilleries for visitors travelling north from Edinburgh or exploring central Scotland.

The distillery draws its water from the Allt Dour burn, which flows from the slopes of Ben Vrackie and through the distillery grounds. This water source has long been central to production at Blair Athol and is referenced by the distillery as contributing to the character of its whisky.

Blair Athol produces a single malt whisky described by the distillery as having a mellow, deep-toned aroma with a strong fruity flavour and a smooth finish. While the single malt is bottled in limited quantities, Blair Athol is also recognised as an irreplaceable contributor to Bell’s blended whisky, one of the best-known Scotch blends in the UK.

Visitors to Blair Athol Distillery can learn about traditional Highland whisky production through guided tours of the site, which explore the distillery’s history, location, and production methods. Further information about the distillery and visitor experience is available via the official Blair Athol Distillery page.

Blair Athol’s position in Perthshire makes it well suited to inclusion within a wider Highland itinerary, where it can be combined with scenic drives and other nearby distilleries across the region.

Blair Athol Distillery is often included as part of our private whisky distillery tours in Scotland, where visits are planned as part of a bespoke, chauffeur-led itinerary. Tour availability and tasting options vary depending on the distillery schedule and are confirmed during the planning process.
